As we look at the world around us things appear to be fairly uncertain. How do we look ahead and make the best choices for our families? One of the areas where this directly affects us as moms is how can we prepare food items for those we take care of? There are pantry items that literally last forever. Having a few of these tucked away relieves the stress of future shortages. Below are two different articles discussing this topic.
Please do not stress our over this. Food is not going to disappear, or become so expensive we cannot afford it. Having a few of these items in your pantry allows you freedom to not worry about it. It is less expensive to purchase a 50 lb bag of rice than smaller amounts. These are available at places like Sam’s Cub, Costco, and Smart and Final. Share one with other family members or close friends. Rice never spoils. Sugar never spoils if stored in sealed dry containers. Dried beans will stay usable indefinitely if stored properly.
As the one responsible for feeding my family it takes allot of pressure off me if I know I have a few meals available in my pantry. I sleep better having that confidence. Think about the things that give you that kind of peace. Take the time now to prepare for this. Then, every couple of years, cycle those items through your meals and restock your long term food supply. If this is too much for you to consider with so many other things for which you are responsible, ask your spouse or a friend to take care of this for you. There are folks our there who love this kind of thing. Our family members in Alaska have to think of this due to the inclement weather conditions they sometimes experience. They have small children so it is really important for them to be prepared.
