Have you ever tried a lactation smoothy?

In earlier editions of this blog you have been provided all kinds of lactation information and recipes.  Breast milk is reported to be the very best food for your baby again and again.  There are, of course, situations where breastfeeding is not possible or preferred.  Talk with you doula or doctor about you particular needs.  Its convenience and cost (free) make it a great option for both mommy and baby.

Almost every mom is concerned at some point that her milk supply is not great enough for her baby.  If mom is drinking enough water (more than you ever thought possible), resting well, and eating well most often this is not the case.  Because it is difficult to measure breastmilk supply the weight gain of baby is the deciding factor.  If baby is gaining weight to your pediatrician’s satisfaction, you are doing well!

There are many foods known to increase milk supply.  A steady supply of protein is vital, as mom is recovering from pregnancy and labor.  In addition, many vegetables and grains have been found to increase milk supply.  Previously, recipes for lactation cookies have been provided on this site.  Many of you have had great results in seeing your milk output increase due to these treats.  Today you will find the recipe for a Green Monkey lactation smoothy!  It is delicious and is another opportunity to eat well with flair!  Enjoy!!!
